Match Notes

The Sun newspaper the following week of this game wrote the following comment about this match: "People are still talking about the South Sydney-Glebe match at the Sports Ground last Saturday. The situation was so exciting that everybody on the ground was carried away by it. Hats were constantly hurled into the air, and the cheering was deafening. The disappointment of South Sydney supporters was deep; the joy of the Glebe "barrackers" great.

"McCabe began the rush which culminated in (Herb) Gilbert dashing over the line, only to be recalled. Gilbert's burst was marvellous. He beat man after man, and got the ball again after he had passed it to a supporting comrade. It was indeed hard luck that Mr. Kearney should have disallowed the try. Evidently the referee saw something that escaped the eye of almost everybody else."

South Sydney player Jim Davis was sent off for questioning the referee's decision to disallow what would have been the winning try, and suspended for 2 matches.
