Match Notes

This was an exhibition match played after the first round had been completed to determine if Cumberland would be a competitive enough side to earn an inclusion into the remainder of the 1908 competition.

The referee of this game was originally going to be Tom Costello. The NSW Referee on 6/5/1908 states that he "failed to put in an appearance on Saturday, and Mr. F. Henlen refereed".

Sydney's Sun newspaper reported the halftime score as 5-nil to Easts. It reports that Horrie Miller scored a double either side of the break, both of which were converted. Brackenreg scored an unconverted try to make it 13-nil, followed by Flegg's try to take the score to 18-nil before Harry Bloomfield's goals for Cumberland, the second of which was a "beautiful goal piloted from near halfway," so it may have been a field goal.

The 5-nil halftime score is also reported by the Australian Star newspaper.
