Match Notes

This match resulted in a particularly unusual piece of play being outlawed. In the lead-up to the try scored by George Mann (St Helens). With St Helens on the attack near the tryline, John Harrison at dummy half threw the football into his own forehead, causing it to propel forward similar to a chip kick, which was chased through and grounded by Mann. Referee Gerry Kershaw had no choice but to award the try, and the RFL banned the practice shortly after.
