Match Notes
Billy Smith was originally selected at fullback but when Ross Strudwick withdrew with a shoulder injury he moved back to half and Johnny King came into fullback.
Alan Burwell withdrew from the Canterbury team on Friday and was replaced by Ray Strudwick.
Ron Raper originally selected as captain relinquished the captaincy during the week due to his form and Johnny Greaves took over.
Ray Payne broke his collarbone after 14 mins and was replaced by Norm Thomas, Thomas was then replaced just before half time with a broken rib with Bill Noonan taking his place.
