Souths had 7 players returning from the 2 interstate games in Queensland during the week, Cleary, Coote & McCarthy withdrew from the match they were replaced by Heiler, Sait & Scott.

Dennis Preston broke down at training during the week selectors decided to switch Langlands to fullback Ken Maddison to the centre and recalled Toga to the team in the 2nd row.

Norgard broke his ankle in the opening minute and was replaced by Kerry Burke. Piggins replaced Walters at halftime.
