Billy Rayner was nearly as wide as he was tall. Norm Provan riled the Parramatta crowd in a game at Cumberland Oval where he smacked Billy across the head for no apparent reason. Billy was a known prankster nicknamed "Funny." When the Eels were on an end of season trip in the early 1980s he caused confusion during Bingo games by constantly yelling "Bingo!" while not in the game.
